PRAYER & FASTING: 7 DAY DANIEL FAST
As a church, from November 13-20th, 2023 we will be completing a 7 day Daniel Fast. Daniel Fast is a biblical fast and was first observed by the prophet Daniel, found in the book of Daniel - Daniel 1:8-14 & Daniel 10:2-3 & 12-13.
The Daniel Fast is an opportunity for you to draw closer to God through focused prayer. Although typically a Daniel Fast is 21- days, we will be conducting a 7-day commitment to a partial fast. During this fast it is recommended you restrict from commonly enjoyed foods as an act of worship and consecration to the Lord. The Daniel Fast is not a diet. The Daniel Fast is a unique, life-changing experience. Participating in the Daniel Fast can result in many wonderful spiritual benefits.
The intention of the Daniel Fast is not to duplicate exactly what Daniel did but the spirit in which he did it. Daniel’s passion for the Lord caused him to hunger and thirst more for spiritual food than for physical food, which should be our desire during this time. Let’s try not to get too hung up on food portions or food types. The guidelines below are given to help you form boundaries, not to push you into legalism. Your fast may look a little different than someone else’s. Some people may need to be stricter than others in their food choices so that their fast is a sacrifice for them.
The most important part of the Daniel Fast is that you deny yourself physically so that you may seek the Lord in prayer and grow closer to Him.
ABOUT FASTING
Fasting is one of the least known disciplines in the church, but it is a practice mentioned both in the Old and New Testament of the Bible and by Jesus Himself, and it has incredible power for our lives today.
Fasting disconnects us from the world.
Fasting isn’t about punishing yourself because God wants you to suffer, rather it’s about intentionally disconnecting from distractions for a season so you can hear from God and experience the full life He has for you.
